Do you have some ‘things’ in your life that are bothering you? Then it’s probably time to start getting rid of it. And you can do it step by step.

The following list is in no particular order, so there are some easy ones and some hard ones everywhere. Take steps to eliminate any of the following found in your life. Mark them while you do so:

1. People who suck your mental, physical, emotional or spiritual energy. This is not easy, but the energy you put into it will pay off for the rest of your life.

2. Trinkets and trinkets that have no personal meaning.

3. Trinkets and trinkets that have personal meaning … but you have too many. If it means something, have room to display it and enjoy it.

4. Anything you have too many of (shoes, picture frames, magazine subscriptions, towels, bedspreads, pens, dozens of calculators, etc.).

5. Tired and / or dry plants. Yuck.

6. Withstanding incredibly tangled cables around your computer and printer.

7. CDs, tapes and / or recording albums that you no longer listen to. MP3 is anyone?

8. Clothes that don’t fit well. No … no … I won’t.

9. Clothes that are out of date (either permanently or for their age!).

10. Clothes you never liked anyway.

11. Clothes you never wear. Keep this statistic in mind: We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time.

12. Canned goods you bought when you were shopping hungry but will never use (eg, water chestnuts, sardines, low-salt kidney beans).

13. Computers, printers, mice, keyboards, telephones, etc. that you are no longer using. Find the place in your city to dispose of these items properly, and then do it.

14. Fabric that you bought with the idea that “someday, I would like to do something with this.”

15. “Craft” supplies that bother you every time you see them.

16. Any service provider you have other than …

17. Credit cards, grocery cards, or any other card you don’t use.

18. Computer software (and accompanying manuals) that are out of date or never loaded anyway. (Hello? Windows 95? Autocad? PrintShop?)

19. Bank, credit card and utility statements that are available online. Shred everything or take it to a commercial shredding operation.

20. Cell phones you no longer use (drop them off at a local cell phone store for recycling).

Start with no. 1 and then scroll through the list. Little by little, get rid of the unnecessary. Eliminate the stress that accompanies the unnecessary.
