Choosing any game console can be a big decision, they are not cheap items to buy and with so many accessories available for each, it is imperative that you get the right one for you first. With that in mind, I thought I’d write a bit about each to tell you about the benefits and drawbacks of each in an attempt to make your choice a bit easier.

nintendo wii

Nintendo’s latest offering was a revolutionary piece of equipment when it launched in late 2006. With its motion-sensitive remote controls, it was something different than what gamers had been experiencing before. It is now available in black or white with all the corresponding drivers. Games available for the Wii include Super Mario and Donkey Kong, as well as all of Nintendo’s other successful franchises. Wii games in general are geared towards a more family game night, with great titles like Wii Party being a lot of fun.

Graphically, though, the Wii falls a bit short of its other two main rivals with hardware that isn’t quite up to par. If you have young children, this console is perfect as it encourages them to get up and play instead of just falling asleep in front of the TV.

microsoft xbox 360

This console has been around for quite some time in its second incarnation with a slimmer, sleeker look. The game catalog is extensive and is aimed at a more serious gamer. That said, it does have its fair share of innovative family titles, like viva piñata, which is completely unlike anything I’ve played before.

If online gaming is your thing, Microsoft’s Xbox Live is a very reliable and enjoyable experience. The dashboard system allows you to find your friends who are currently online, an easy task. On the other hand, if it’s high-definition movies you crave, this may not be the right choice for you, as Microsoft’s HD DVD format failed and blu-ray took over. Although you can get Sky TV on your Xbox if you want.

One thing that Xbox wins with, in my opinion, is Xbox Kinect. An incredible piece of kit that has completely changed the way we play. You don’t need a driver, you are. The launch titles are spectacular with Kinect Sports proving to be as much of a workout as if you were actually taking part in the actual sport.

sony playstation 3

Sony’s console was the latest to appear on the scene, but don’t underestimate it, graphically superior to its closest rivals, the console is capable of stunning high-definition graphics. Again, the titles are aimed more at a mature audience, but with titles like Ratchet and Clank and the Little Big Planet franchise, it has something to offer younger gamers.

The Playstation 3 also has built-in blu-ray technology so you can watch the latest movies in high definition without having to buy a separate set. Since the console can update its firmware online, it has no problem keeping up with the latest developments in the movie industry.

Not to be outdone by its competitors, the ps3 has its own motion-sensing peripherals under the ps3 move brand. Again, this is very nice, but it seems very Wii-like. The launch titles are very similar to other companies, that is, they have a sports title. But it’s a lot of fun nonetheless.

conclusion

These thoughts are just my personal opinion, but if you’re looking for a good gaming experience with the added fun of motion detection, I’d recommend the Xbox with Kinect as it’s going to be hard to beat. However, if you’re a hardcore gamer who loves movies, the PlayStation 3 should be your first choice.
