Everyone knows there’s only one priority on a fall Saturday…and that’s enjoying college football all day. Every fall Saturday is special, but there’s nothing like a complete Notre Dame game day experience. There are many different techniques for enjoying the hallowed Notre Dame game day experience, but I’m going to share with you how I think it’s best done.

It all starts on Friday night with the preparation. This is when you go to the store to buy all the food and drinks to keep a close eye on. During this trip, it is crucial that you get all the necessities such as burgers, brats, dogs, snacks, and beer. Once you have everything you need, it’s time to pack up the coolers, grill, tables, chairs, and some games. Bag up all those saplings and make sure they’re ready to roll in the morning. The next step is choosing your game day outfit so there’s nothing to worry about in the morning. This outfit should include all your ND clothes and of course your favorite t-shirt. Representing your favorite team is a rule that cannot be broken.

After everything is located it is important to fill the tank with a full tank, that baby should be ready to roll in the morning. Once everything is ready for the next morning, it’s time to get some rest for the big day that follows. In the morning, you need to get up early and hit the road as soon as possible to avoid traffic.

Next stop: South Bend, Indiana. Once you arrive on campus is when people differ in their routines. Many people decide to set up shop right away and start following right away. I respect such people and usually opt to open a few cold ones right away, but stop at the full back door for a couple of hours. I prefer to walk around campus for a couple of hours and soak in the scenery and everyone’s energy in anticipation of the big game ahead. That’s something my dad taught me and we’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. He just delivers the full game day experience in a way that he can’t capture any other way.

Some of the main stops include Touchdown Jesus, The Golden Dome, the famous church on campus, and the Grotto, all of which are amazing. I will always stop at the church and at the Grotto. The church is beautiful, so it’s always nice to see that. He also always surprises me with the Grotto.
