Ecologically, Uganda is where the East African savannah meets the Central African jungle. Located in the geographic heart of the African continent, Uganda is no ordinary safari destination. Not every day, and certainly not everywhere, has the luxury of festive weather.

The inhabitants of the country could be excused for taking that as a right. No one expects that the weather is acting up and thwarting attempts to savor the breathtaking beauty that is available everywhere for optical plunder. As if it were a long sealed pact, the weather is happy to oblige. As he does so, he unleashes both flora and fauna to captivate the senses of visitors and locals alike.

Then, like a tireless servant, the same climate helps the bustle of the cosmopolitan city of Kampala, the capital of Uganda, a fairly modern city that is spread over seven hills that represents the good that has come to the country, especially in the later era to the civil war that ushered in the current government and set the country on a new path, defined by an unprecedented level of political stability and unrelenting economic growth. It’s no wonder that Kampala is a city that works hard during the day and parties at night.

And it hardly matters that Kampala is home to such a diverse collection of people. Uganda has long been a melting pot of cultures; Witness the more than 30 different indigenous languages belonging to five distinct language groups. That count includes the country’s earliest inhabitants, the Batwa and Bambuli Pygmies, remnants of the hunter-gatherers who once occupied much of East Africa; a variety of Bantu tribes in central and western Uganda, and a Nilotic collection in the north.

Highlighting Uganda’s cultural diversity are the Karimojong in the northeast of the country, traditional herders with a lifestyle and culture that leaves nothing between them and the Maasai of Kenya. Closer to the Karimajong are the Bagisu of the Mount Elgon region, whose Imbalu (circumcision) ceremony is always a sight to behold.

But although separated by the work of geography, Ugandans are united by a warmth that instantly strikes the first-time visitor. When you think of perfect weather, scenic beauty, beautiful and warm people, you are thinking of Uganda.
