A few months ago I wrote a post titled “Ask and You Shall Receive Miracles” which can be found at: http://ezinearticles.com/?Ask-and-You-Shall-Receive-Miracles&id=268959 I am a firm believer that if you have enough faith and you believe that the world is conspiring to shower you with blessings, then that is exactly what will happen to you.

When you walk around believing this, adversity is much easier to handle. You still have to face it, but it doesn’t become a long and painful process. It’s all about perception: how you view adversity determines the outcome in your life.

Several months after leaving Wall Street (in the early 1990s), I was running dangerously low on funds. I had sold most of my investments to survive. It was one of the hardest moments of my life.

It was also one of the best because I learned that it didn’t take much to survive.

One hot Saturday afternoon in July, I went to a seminar for the local chapter of the National Speakers Association in New York City. They had a guest speaker from out of town come in to speak to our group. It was a day long event that started at 9 am and ended at 5 pm

At noon they gave us an hour to have lunch alone. Not wanting to venture far because it was terribly muggy that day, I chose to eat at the hotel restaurant with another seminary colleague.

We all know that hotel restaurants are what some people may consider expensive. Everything on the menu was $18.99 and up, except for a bowl of soup. They were offering soup of the day for “only” $9.99. Wow, what a deal!

I only had ten bucks and change, so I ended up eating cream of broccoli. As you can imagine, it wasn’t exactly satisfying: it was like ordering a very expensive can of Campbell’s soup; but he did his job, temporarily removing the hunger pangs. We quickly slurped down our soups, ate as many crackers as we could (in fact, we stuffed several more baggies of crackers in our pockets in case we got hungry later), paid our bill, and headed back to the seminar for the rest of the afternoon.

After it was over, I went home and went straight to the mailbox to find a large stack of mail waiting for me. One envelope immediately caught my eye. It was flaming red and had no return address. Intrigued, I opened that first one.

As I was opening it, something fell out. What I saw shocked me. She was literally floating like a butterfly, gliding towards the ground in slow motion. Mesmerized, I looked at him. Was this a dream? Was this really happening? When I came to, I quickly picked it up and put it in my pocket, lest someone else, passing through the hall, get the same idea.

Can you guess what it was?

It was a $10 bill!

Have you ever had an experience like that? Perhaps you found money on the sidewalk, or money came unexpectedly from an unknown source, just when you needed it? Or maybe he took a chance and paid for something, not knowing that he would recoup his investment?

Now more intrigued than ever, I opened the red envelope, wondering where it came from. The letter was from a survey company “bribing” me to complete a survey. I thought to myself, “Hey, no problem, you just paid for my lunch today!”

Then I realized, who says God can’t handle the little details?

Food for thought: By keeping an open mind and trusting what comes your way, don’t worry, nothing that happens will be more than you can handle. The world is conspiring to hurt you if you only believe it.
