The term ‘vibrational medicine’ is heard more often these days, and many people are wondering what this fancy new healing technique could be. Vibrational medicine refers to the entire realm of healing concentrating on modalities that tune into or transform one’s energetic vibration, this includes flower and gem essences, and many other remedies. Yes, it sounds a bit outrageous to some, but the more the realities of modern physics and ancient mystical religions are investigated, the more sense these healing techniques make.

One can imagine that all forms, be it the earth, plants, animals, stars, everything, are made of energy. Einstein proclaimed this in his famous equation: energy equals mass times the square of the speed of light. And all this energy is vibrating in particular patterns, so the rose looks like a rose and not a caterpillar; the rose, like anything else we can feel, has a unique vibration. Vibrational medicine works with the idea that you personally have a unique vibration. Your body, your thoughts and your feelings have unique vibrations. And the healthiest expression of this vibration could be something other than your current state. And, its vibration can be influenced by other vibrations.

Now imagine that we, as human beings, are also composed, on some level, of vibratory energy. If we take this a step further, one can imagine that our soul or spirit or whatever term you would like to use here, has an etheric vibration or pattern of its own. Your ‘soul pattern’ includes your emotional makeup and directly influences your actions, choices, and perceptions of the world, both materially and spiritually.

It turns out, as Dr. Edward Bach discovered in the 1930s, that flower essences can alter our own etheric patterns. The vibrational imprint of a flower, prepared in water, can directly affect our own energetic composition in a positive way. If you imagine that each emotion has a particular vibration, you can also imagine that that vibration is affected or “tuned in” by the introduction of another vibration, that of a flower essence.

We will take the clear example of the use of one of Dr. Bach’s original flower essences, Impatiens. You can think of being ‘impatient’ as being a little ‘nervous’, where nothing happens fast enough, with a general feeling of anxiety. This can be considered as a particular vibration common to many individuals of the human species, and it can also be thought that it is not particularly pleasant or useful, a ‘stress’ that one might want to alter or release. By taking the essence of the Impatiens flower, the vibration of the flower synergistically alters a particular vibration of the individual, resulting in a remarkable calming action for many people.

The use of the word ‘synergistically’ here is important: each flower essence has been found to affect certain ‘soul patterns’ and not others. For example, if you are by nature a patient person, you will probably not be affected by the essence of the Impatiens flower. This is one of the many beauties of flower essence therapy – they are completely safe for anyone to take. An incorrectly chosen flower essence will likely result in no effect at all; there are no “side effects” to speak of.

And this is a relatively simple case; A person’s vibrational structure can be affected by a particularly stressful early childhood relationship with the mother, and one might choose a flower essence to aid in the change or healing of that emotional vibration (Evening Primrose, for example). Clearly, there is a wide variety of human emotions and experiences, and as such there are a large number of flower essences available. Often people will work with multiple scents at once, either taking them separately throughout the day or mixing them in a clean dropper bottle to dispense this custom formula.

While some “formal” guidelines are given, there are no hard and fast rules for the use of flower essences. You can simply start with one of the ‘commonly’ prescribed methods and explore creative ways to incorporate flowers into your life as you see fit. Most flower essences can be used straight from the “stock” bottle (the dilution level that most flower essences are sold at); a typical usage schedule is 4 drops in the mouth (or in a glass of water), 4 times a day. Due to the particularly dynamic nature of daily awakening and retreat, the most important moments may be immediately upon awakening and just before going to sleep. The other 2 hours can be before lunch and when you get home at the end of the workday; actually, the hours that best suit your daily rhythms. Frequency is really the most important, so if you find it a bit difficult to open the essence bottles many times a day, you can also add sixteen drops to a water bottle and sip water during the day for an effect. Similary.

Flower essences can be further diluted from the reserve bottle to a ‘dosing bottle’ for regular use. One can add 1 or more droppers filled from the stock bottle to a clean 1-ounce dropper bottle and optimally fill the rest with spring water. Mixing can also be made this way, adding 1 or more droppers filled with each flower essence to the 1-ounce dropper bottle, filling the rest with spring water. The receiving bottle must be new or boiled in water to remove old residues; Due to the nature of flower essences, they can pick up leftover etheric vibrations. Also, whenever you use flower essences from the stock bottle, keep in mind that you shouldn’t touch anything with the tip of the dropper – your tongue, hands, another bottle, etc. – to help maintain the vibratory purity of the flower essence. Diluting the essences will have different effects for different people: some people find the essences in the dosing bottle as potent as the reserve bottle, while others find different results. Different results may be due to dilution methods and the purity of the water in which the essences have been added. Use your intuition here and be the most careful and gentle with scents when creating your own dosage formula.

Because flower essences work on an emotional level, sometimes described as the “soul level,” it is important to remember that changes can best be made gradually. Flower essence therapy has been most successful when essences are taken regularly, most of the time over a period of about 1 month, to show changes in “core” emotional issues. Some essences, like Rescue Remedy, are mixed to have an effect on a recent traumatic event (minutes, hours, days). The Yarrow Environmental Solution was created to offer protection of our modern environment on a daily basis, without necessarily addressing personal emotional situations. Other essences, such as ‘Impatiens’, which is used to calm an impatient aspect of the personality, work quite quickly in some cases. One user regularly felt the effect within 10 minutes, while impatience was still an important part of their personality, and the whole personality aspect slowly faded after prolonged use. Therefore, in most cases, if you are trying to cleanse or change a significant part of your soul composition, try at least a few weeks of regular use.
