The main responsibility of a bodyguard is to protect his client. The role of a bodyguard is to keep his client out of harm’s way, even if it means risking his body and life. Bodyguards, or private security, can work for anyone at any time, including politicians, celebrities, or they can be hired to protect a local business. Usually, in the case of a public figure, several bodyguards are hired. The President of the United States often has visible bodyguards and additional bodyguards who blend into the crowd in case someone tries to harm him.

Often times, a bodyguard can play the role of a driver and is there to make sure their client gets to where they need to be. Many times, bodyguards are assigned by reputable agencies. It is best to look for an agency that is experienced and hires competent, experienced and disciplined bodyguards. The one common mistake people make when looking for a bodyguard is looking for someone who is muscular and very tall. While that’s a good criteria to look for, it’s also important to find someone who has a military or law enforcement background so you know they can defend themselves and you should an altercation occur.

The role of a bodyguard is not easy. Security service companies must ensure that their bodyguards are alert and aware of what is going on around them at all times. In addition to monitoring their client, they must check the premises, doors, balconies and suspicious vehicles. For a bodyguard, their role is to determine and diffuse a situation before it happens. The last thing a bodyguard wants is to have to physically get involved with someone because once that happens, their client isn’t 100 percent protected.

Bodyguards hired by celebrities are often referred to as VIP protection bodyguards. The term is also used for bodyguards who work at special events, large parties, or nightclubs. In the case of celebrities, a bodyguard can end up becoming a personal friend because they are around 24 hours a day and are often required to live in the celebrity’s residence to provide protection 7 days a week. In other cases, the bodyguard may be hired to appear when the celebrity leaves her home in anticipation of a crowd at an event she is attending.

There is one thing to remember if you ever need a bodyguard. Shop around and don’t settle for the first agency you contact unless you’ve received a strong recommendation. Find out what the credentials of each agency are and what the skill set and background of each bodyguard is. Obviously, you don’t want a bodyguard with a criminal record. You also don’t want to look for a bodyguard with only a couple of years of experience. If the bodyguard you’re hiring has a history of altercations, take that as a red flag. The best bodyguards are the ones who know what to do when a situation arises and are the best at defusing a situation before it escalates and they can prevent something from happening just by their physical presence.
