I don’t know about you, but my first experience in a brick and mortar sex shop was not the most pleasant. With a salesperson watching my every move, I didn’t feel any privacy. As it was supposed to be something fun and exciting to do with my boyfriend, I can only say that the experience was not at all as exciting as we expected.
So we decided to see if going to an online sex shop would be more our style. Just the fact that we could sit together at the computer screen and look at everything that was available was definitely more enjoyable. Just fantasizing about using this or that, or explaining to each other how we would use this sex toy with each other, in complete privacy, was definitely a turn on.
One thing we noticed was the prices. The toys in the online sex stores were unbelievably lower. Even after accounting for shipping costs, the final purchase price is much lower than in high street stores. Some of these online sex toy stores even have free shipping if you buy for more than a certain predetermined dollar amount.
Once we had discovered the sex toys we wanted to buy, we had the opportunity to compare prices and find the best prices. There are some great price comparison tools if you look around. Shopzilla and Google Product Search are some of my favorites. They allow you to search for a particular product and see the different online sex shops that sell it and compare prices. Thus, it is possible to get the most out of your money (pun intended!).
So all things considered, here are the pros and cons of each sex toy store:
Buying in an online sex shop will save you money if you know how to buy and compare. You will also have a much more private shopping experience. We found that shopping from the comfort of our couch was fun, exciting, and only led to more sex talk and teasing.
However, the disadvantages are that the products cannot be touched or seen. So knowing if the vibrator you want to buy is big enough, or vibrates enough, or just feels like what you want, is not possible when shopping online unless the website has live chat. Some sites will offer live help to get answers to questions you may have.
