Garmin GPS is a high-tech device that offers voice-enabled navigation: it has the ability to announce street names by voice, so the user does not have to keep an eye on the GPS screen while on the move. To make using the device more interesting, there is a wide selection of voices available for users to choose from. To install voices on Garmin GPS, you must first connect the device to the computer.
If the user has the Garmin Communicator, the process is much easier. Just go to the voice download page and click the “Install Voice” button. Garmin Communicator is an Internet browser add-on that allows the user to send and retrieve data online using the Garmin GPS device. Provides access to a wide range of data that is available on supported sites. It is also possible to install voices on a Garmin device without the use of the Garmin Communicator. First, the user must connect the device to a computer.
Then select “Download Voice” and click the “Open” button if necessary. After that choose “Extract” and a list of folders will be displayed. Browse through the list and find the “Garmin / Voice” folder. Once the folder is found, select “Unplug” or “Eject” from the system tray by double clicking. Click the “Stop” button and then the “OK” button. Proceed to disconnect the USB cable from the Garmin device.
There is a large selection of voices that can be installed on the Garmin GPS device, including Yeti, Dr. Nightmare, Squirrely the Squirrel, Piggly Porker, Sergeant Hartman, Gollum, and Captain Jack, as well as celebrity voices such as: President Obama, Elvis, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
After installing the voices, the user can choose their favorite voice from the Garmin GPS device. Select “Settings” on the device and then choose “Language”. All installed voices will be displayed. Choose the desired voice and press “OK”. Make sure “mute” is off and start testing the new voice. Please note that the voices chosen may not be compatible with all Garmin GPS units.
With the voice selection feature, your Garmin GPS device becomes a personalized device that serves as a fun and useful companion on the road. Some of the voices are really funny and can certainly add some excitement to your adventures.
