The story of the suppression of the free press among those who want to take or maintain control is astonishing. And more than one to philosophize has noticed it; He who owns the media, he owns the minds of the people. Today we see Silicon Valley, namely Google and Facebook, who want to remove what they call “Fake News” from their websites, namely Google News and the Facebook News Feed. Of course, this presents a rather slippery slope, one of mass censorship. In fact, both companies have been caught hiding right-wing news and enhancing positive news towards left-wing politicians.
In Washington DC, work is underway to prevent fake news in the media or online to prevent foreign governments from trying to subvert our elections or poison the minds of our people with propaganda. Still, it’s obvious from the mainstream media reports of this effort in Washington DC that right-wing alternative online news is the target. The major news outlets are concerned that they are losing millions of viewers and therefore huge amounts of ad revenue to online news sites, competition they would rather not have. They are all these forces; Are the mainstream media, the Democratic Party and the major internet social networks and search engines converging to control our information and control the minds of the masses?
Well, if history is any judge, then the answer is yes. All the dictatorships, the communist countries and even the NAZI regime worked very hard to control the news. Even terrorists, spies, and nation-states that sponsor terrorism use the news as propaganda.
There was an interesting article in Foreign Affairs published on January 7, 2014 titled; “Al Jazeera’s ‘fake news’ problem”, by Judy Bachrach. The way I see this is that every news agency has an agenda, and a great deal of power to own people’s minds. In discussing this in our think tank, one thinker noted;
“The author of that article placed Israel right near the central fulcrum of his trial, then gives a contradictory close, then sums it up this way: 1. I can’t blame them for abusing a lying journalist.
2. I guess I should side with liars because the second amendment says they have the right to lie.”
The think tank guy points out that these are dangerous emotional jokes, rather than facts and states that he would rather read something about American Networks because he often has to go to the BBC and other media outlets to get the real news.
Wow, those are some interesting comments. Still, when I look at media outlets like RT (Russian TV), they are often negatively slanted towards the US, sometimes they are right and make us look in the mirror, sometimes they are just picky negative rants. More like clockwork, just a few times a day. Al Jazeera America I think is often better than RT, but not when it comes to sectarian Middle Eastern stuff, they’re all one way too. RT is generally left-leaning, makes sense. Today’s news, well, it takes a sharp eye and commitment to read between the type, the bullet points, and the sound bites.
When we look at FOX News, they lean to the right, and CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, they all lean to the left and seem willing to attack anything to the right. So I ask; what really is FAKE NEWS – folks – is all fake news, that’s my opinion.
