I have suffered from headaches and migraines for as long as I can remember. My dad has told me that when I was a baby learning to talk, one of the first things I learned to say was that I had a headache. I grew up taking fairly large amounts of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Motrin) regularly for pain. While I don’t really like putting drugs in my body, when it comes to severe pain, I find myself turning to anything that brings relief.

The problem with headaches and migraines is that it’s hard to pinpoint why they occur. Sometimes it’s obvious; your head is clogged from sinus pressure or you fell and hit your head very hard. But most of the time, they just surprise you for a few hours until you finally get to the point where any kind of movement, noise, or bright light feels like a hammer hitting your head.

Years of taking painkillers have caused liver damage. I don’t blame them, because I have chosen to put them on my body on many occasions, and I am sure I will do it again in the throes of the moment. They help, most of the time, to ease the pain and sometimes we just need to get to the next moment to move on.

But they don’t always help. To tell you the truth, I have not found anything, drug or natural, that completely eliminates my migraines every time. However, I have found that by having an arsenal of different potions, one of them is sure to work for whatever type of headache you have at the moment. Maybe one of these will help you.

Peppermint oil can be used in many ways.

Peppermint Oil #1

The simplest is to simply put a few drops in the palm of your hand, cover your mouth and nose, and inhale deeply several times. This helps congestion.

Peppermint Oil #2

I usually apply the peppermint oil directly to my scalp, right where the pain is. Where it hurts the most is where I apply it. But I will also put some in the palm of my hand and rub some on my fingertip to apply above the eyebrows, behind the ears on the jawline and all over the neck.

Be careful not to get it in your eyes or use that finger to rub your eyes later. If you do get some, just take out some vegetable oil and gently apply it to the burned area. It will stop burning almost instantly.

Peppermint Oil #3

I know people who have gotten rid of a headache with a single drop of peppermint oil on the back of their necks. It hasn’t worked for me, but I’ve met too many people who have had it work for me to be skeptical.

Peppermint Oil #4

Mix a drop of peppermint oil with your shampoo and then again with your conditioner. The lather helps the oil disperse easily throughout your head. The tingling feels so good that I don’t want to rinse it off. This feels good even when you don’t have a headache, but if you do, it feels heavenly.

Peppermint Oil #5

Inhale it: rub on the tip of the nose, take a deep breath. Apply neat to forehead and temples, cheekbones, bridge of nose and around ears.

roman chamomile oil

Apply to each of the points on the face and neck, basically where you feel pressure in the sinuses. This has never helped me, personally, but we are all made differently.

low blood sugar

Check your blood sugar level. If it’s between 60 and 70, you may develop a slight headache. If it’s between 50 and 60, you’re more likely to have a bad headache, feel weak, tired, and irritable. My best friend gets a headache every time her blood sugar drops. As far as I’m concerned, she’s lucky, because as soon as she eats, her headache goes away.

Migraines and liver

Using the theory that migraines are related to the liver, target the liver and head areas in your feet. Apply a few drops of Valor essential oil all over the foot, paying special attention to the back of the big toes, rubbing it in vigorously. Rub a drop or two of M-Grain on the back of your big toes as well as your nail bed. The brain point is in the big toe.

The liver point is on the right foot. If you find the center of your foot (not including the toes) and move towards the part you step on, that’s where you rub. I rub a drop of M-Grain in here too, rubbing it in rhythmically for a few minutes. It is easier to rub with a few drops of olive oil.

Then massage the M-Grain into the Liver 3 point, which is on the top of the foot along the path from the big toe to the next toe up to the ankle. Run a finger between those bones, rubbing the oil.

chemical headache

Toxins from chemicals, like paint fumes, can cause headaches. Breathing in an essential oil, such as peppermint oil, can help restore balance. Diffusing the oil is particularly effective here.

Dilated Blood Vessels

Caffeine constricts blood vessels. Sometimes just drinking a little coffee or Coca-Cola can help with a migraine.

Other things to try:

Fresh wheatgrass juice

fresh celery juice

Thieves Essential Oil Blend

Apply a drop to your thumb and press on the roof of your mouth

lavender oil and peppermint oil

Apply a drop of lavender oil to your temples and neck. Put a layer of peppermint oil on top of the lavender. Sometimes the combination is stronger than an individual.

grapefruit oil

By itself, it does nothing for me. However, when I layer it on top of other oils, it intensifies the effect of the other oils.

Here is another bread recipe. [http://www.healthyaromas.com/pain_control.php], usually. But this one might knock him out, so don’t take it unless he’s home and can rest. Valerian is classified as a mild tranquilizer and has a sedative effect on the body. It’s called “Nature’s Valium” for a reason.

20 drops of valerian oil

10 drops of helichrysum oil

3 drops of clove oil

3 drops of Peppermint oil

Fill one or two empty capsules, depending on capsule size, with these oils and swallow with a glass of water.
