Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the famous sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh located on the bank of the Godavari River. This sanctuary offers an insight into the wildlife and biodiversity of Andhra Pradesh. The sanctuary is 12 km from Paloncha in Khammam district. Covering an area of 635.4 square kilometres, this sanctuary is part of the Dandakarnya forest in Khammam district.
The name “Kinnerasani” for this shrine derived from the river that flows through the shrine. This river divides the shrine into two parts and finally flows into the Godavari River. The dense forest of this sanctuary is of mixed deciduous type with teak, bamboo and terminals. The animals found here are black males, cheetal, sambars, chousinghas, warthogs, jackals, hyenas, tigers, sloth bears, gaurs, wild dogs, chinkaras. Visitors can spot a variety of beautiful bird species like teals, junglefowl, pigeons, peacocks, ducks, nuktas, openbills, spoonbills, nuktas, etc. the thick forest is also home to reptiles such as python, kraite, cobra, etc.
The main attraction of this sanctuary is the Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir and Deer Park. The tricky specials found in the forest include Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango, and Tendu. The sanctuary also offers an environmental education center that provides details about the wildlife in the sanctuary.
