The company was founded in 1985 when Frank Sloot took over, ditching the old company and name and bringing the company’s product line into compliance with FDA regulations. The company is now one of the largest private companies in Idaho. The company has established the Melaleuca Foundation, which currently supports an orphanage in Quito, Ecuador. So I can see that the company has a kind heart.

Melaleuca is also the name of a type of plant that has an essential oil called the Ti tree (also known as the tea tree). Some people misspell it as “melaluca” or “malaluca”. I have used tea tree oil products for many years on my horses as a topical treatment as it has excellent natural antibacterial and antifungal effects. Tea tree oil can be purchased at most drug stores or pet stores for only a few dollars. An interesting fact is that the melaleuca plant is a valuable plant in Australia and Hawaii, but it is an invasive weed in some areas like Florida, where it is costing the state of Florida hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to eliminate it.

The Melaleuca Wellness Company product line includes more than 300 items. These items include household cleaning products, personal care items, candles, hygiene products, nutritional products, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. The company claims to have excellent environmentally friendly products.

Products

First, let me tell you that this review is NOT a scientific review of Melaleuca products.

I have no doubt that Melaleuca Company is a great company and that they have some really good products that are better than your average drugstore products. I do not believe that Melaleuca is a fraud or a scam. I just don’t feel like your dietary supplements are for me and my family. Even EPA certification as environmentally safe does not mean that a product is biologically safe. A former university pharmacy professor once said that “what is safe for the environment can sometimes be extremely toxic to humans.”

When I looked at the ingredient list for Melaleuca health supplements, I saw some chemicals that made me cringe. Every supplement I looked at on the label, including even your children’s health product line, had harmful or even toxic chemicals in it. I saw ingredients like

  • sucralose (not to be confused with sucrose)
  • fructose
  • Silicon dioxide!
  • chromium chloride!

Chromium chloride It is so toxic that it is on the list of dangerous substances. It is known to have genotoxic, mutagenic, teratogenic (reproductive risk) effects in the body. If you review the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for chromium chloride, you may find that it has an LD50, referring to its lethal dose to kill 50% of a population of mice in studies. So, could infant vitamin kill your child if your child got into the bottle and ate too much?

Silicon dioxide It is found in many supplements in any store. It’s not “toxic”, but I found it interesting that ALL the Melaleuca supplement labels I looked at … had this ingredient. Even children’s products had this ingredient. Silicon dioxide is the chemical name for SAND, just like sodium chloride is the chemical name for salt. Now silicon dioxide is not harmful, but I don’t understand why it is necessary to put it in all your products. An interesting fact about silicon dioxide is that it is the active compound in scouring cleaners, and it is also used to make computer chips and many types of glass.

While I was on the official Melaleuca website, I discovered that they have a letter that lists products that do not contain any ingredients found in the list of prohibited substances published by the World Anti-Doping Code. Since not all products were listed, it means that some of their supplements use ingredients that are on the global Anti-Doping Banned Substances list. This doesn’t necessarily mean that those supplements will kill you, but if it is internationally illegal for an Olympic athlete to use some of the Melaleuca supplements, then that should say something.

Business opportunity

His compensation plan was not for me. Among many companies, I once looked at Melaleuca as a potential money-making opportunity to earn residual income, as many people look for ways to work from home. But when I learned that you must have more than 2,500 people in your organization at the Melaleuca Company to make a six-figure income, I immediately lost interest in the business opportunity.

I found another work from home opportunity that pays a lot more for my time and is much easier for ordinary people to do so successfully.

My conclusion

I can safely say that Melaleuca nutritional supplements weren’t for me and my family. I found a better supplement that I am extremely happy with. I have friends who use Melaleuca products and I feel that the Melaleuca vitamins are better than the vitamins and minerals in your health food store, but I know there are better. Why not use the best?
